A Summit of Energies

Performed by: Geoffrey Lancaster and James Huntingford

The Broadwood grand returns to WAAPA! This concert celebrates the completed restoration of WAAPA’s 1824 Broadwood & Sons grand piano (an instrument once owned by Andrew Ashe, the flautist in Haydn’s London orchestra). After two years of expert restoration in Belgium, this priceless instrument makes a triumphant return to the stage. Joseph Haydn’s Sonata No. 51 in D major is heard alongside Jan Ladislav Dussek’s Sonata
in G major Op. 39 and Muzio Clementi’s Capriccio in A major Op. 34, works written for the captivating sound of pianos made by Broadwood. The program concludes with Carl Czerny’s monumental arrangement for piano four hands of Beethoven’s Eroica Symphony, No. 3 in E-flat major, Op. 55.
